Sandwich Year Positions

Sandwich Placement year

A sandwich placement is typically one year of a four year course where the student is either working within their chosen setting or studying at another institution (or a mixture of both). Students gain real experience, work within their chosen field, earn money (for working paid placements students can typically expect to earn upwards of £12,500) and develop their employability skills. Placements can be both within the UK or overseas.

Advantages of Sandwich years

Sandwich year experiences provide students with skills that often mean they can choose higher paying jobs than those who have not undertaken a placement year after graduation. Furthermore such graduates often find  jobs more quickly than those who have not done a placement. This is because they have recognised relevant work experience that employers value. Students with a sandwich year are also likely to get a better final degree classification as their studies can draw on their practical experience.
Undertaking a placement as part of a course gives a student many benefits. It helps to develop their skills both personally and professionally, enabling them to put into practice the subjects they have been studying. It will help them to develop self confidence, communication and presentation skills, which all help to make students more employable.
